Why are handmade soaps better?

Have you ever wondered why Handmade Soaps are better than traditional detergent based soap bars?  If you had asked me 16 years ago if I thought Handmade Soap was different than the "Zest" bar I had in my shower, I would have told you - "Soap is soap" and my future self would have gone back in time and kicked my past self in the butt and given her an earful about what she knows now!

For most people, just trying a handmade bar of soap speaks volumes as to why they are different.  But there's a reason it feels so good.

Here at Rachel Rene, we began with soap.  The first thing we ever made or formulated was soap and we never looked back.

When I was formulating our "original recipe", which we still use to this very day, I had one thing in mind.  My daughter's skin.  It was dry and riddled with eczema and all I wanted was something that would help and not strip her already dry skin.  I chose each oil and butter for it's particular property.  Here's what they are and why:

Avocado Oil contains a large amount of oleic acid, which contributes to its conditioning properties. This oils helps to create a moisturizing bar of soap like no other

Castor Oil helps to produce a rich and creamy lather but it is also a humectant which means it attracts moisture from the air.

Coconut Oil is highly cleansing and conditioning to the skin and produces a wonderfully bubbly, creamy lather. It is rich in fatty acids which help to remove blemish-causing dirt, bacteria and dead skin, and it does so gently without irritating the skin.  It's also helps create a hard long lasting bar of soap.

Palm Kernel Oil (sustainable) is used to make a harder bar of soap that also provides a fluffy, bubbly lather.

Shea Butter is one of my personal favorite ingredients in everything.  We use it in a lot of our products because of it's amazing moisturizing ability, it's gentleness on the most sensitive skin, it's ability to help fight many dry skin ailments, it's rich creamy texture and most importantly in a bar of soap it creates a conditioning lather and leaves your skin feeling amazing!

Sunflower Oil is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E.  It produces a lather that is incredibly conditioning on the skin.

Sweet Almond Oil produces a rich conditioning lather. It is high in Vitamins E, A and D as well as Oleic and Linoleic fatty acids, so it is perfect for soothing dry, flaky and irritated skin.

All of these oils and butters combined together to create our original bar of soap that to this day has been a top seller for it's ability to not only clean your skin gently but effectively but because it leave skin feeling silky and conditioned, without stripping away your natural oils and leaving your feel dry and cracked.
